Am I stupid? Am I missing something?
First of congrats to me on a fifth place finish in the WWDN. I offered an early sacrifice to the poker gods when I chipped myself down to 300-chips left with the Hammer. I spoke prophetically saying the poker gods would reward my dedication and they did.
Now to the whiny, pussy, I am an asshole, part of my post. Yes I hate bad play and Yes I find it hard to not get mad about it. Twice in the WWDN I got called in the following situations. Please tell me what I am missing here.
I am in EP or Early Middle Position. I am acting before you. I raise 3-4x the blinds, or I push all in. Now immediately you look at your cards. You have A9 or A8 and decide that they are the Shizzz Nuttzles and you either call my all in or re-raise me all in.
I call you and turn over AJ and AT s00ted. I have you totally dominated and you suckout on me. Here is my question. What about a raise from EP-MP tells you that your crap offsuit weak ass kicker hand is any good? I just can not understand this play AT ALL! What are you hoping for? That your only 80% dominated? You think I always have pocket 3’s? I mean what the hell is going through your mind there? Why in the world do people fall in love with weak aces? If someone can explain this in some intelligent manor I might be able to sleep tonight. Otherwise a big CB to you all and your 4 card flushes!

It ain't right, Waffles, it ain't right.
I hardly ever play A8 or A9 from any position except in special circumstances, let alone call a raise from any position with those hands, let ALONE call a raise from early position with those hands. But maybe that's just me and you, maybe someone else knows the odds better than we do. Probably the same guy who knocked me down in WWdN tonight who called my big preflop raise with AJs. And then promptly went on to flop the flush.
Donkeys Always Draw baybeeee!
Congrats on your WWdN finish tonight, seriously. Another final table for you, way to go.

It's a pancea I know, but you WANT them to make those calls. 3 out of 4 times you will have their asses nailed to the wall as they deserve for calling your shit with their Ace-Rag. Yes, they sucked out on you this time..but heck, did any of those suckouts finish higher then you in the long term?

Congrats on the finish last night, shame it had to end on a suckout. This was my first WWDN, not sure if you remember, but we were at the final table at the first Weekends with Dr. Pauly which was my first blogger tournament ever. I think I finished 8th way back when, so it was nice to take this one down. Hopefully I'll see you at another final table soon.

Great Job Prez.. you dominated the final table. I feel better today although I still can not understand why people like Ace-Rags for there entire stacks.
6:05 AM
Waffles...why are you calling a re-raise all in with AJ or AT.
Why are you pushing with them in EP?
That is the real question.
of course, my tourney experience is limited and i am an idiot.
6:44 AM
Why are you CALLING all-ins with AT and AJ?
Unless you have a chip stack to take those races or potentially be dominated I see that as a -EV play.
7:49 AM
I'm with Drizz and the Fat Danno on this one. Sure, there play sucks, but Waffle, you are better than that, pushing with AJ or AT in EP.
7:54 AM
My explanation: I had been at the same table as you most of the tourney. I hadn't seen you commit all of your chips, preflop, once. You have 6000 in EP, the big blind is 800, I have 14200 remaining chips after posting the big blind.
You go all-in preflop--out of character for your behaviour all night. It looks suspiciously like an attempt to steal the blinds (1450, a considerable amount when you're short-stacked). It's an extra 5200 chips for me to call, and even if you do have me beat, I'll still walk away with > 10x the big blind.
So yes, I call with A8o to defend the big blind. I felt bad about sucking out with the flush, but given all of that context again, I would probably make the same call.
10:28 AM
I went all in with AT s00ted because I had 8K left or a little less and the blinds were 800. M<10. Push.
The other hand with AJ was less acceptable.. but I made the raise, and the re-raiser had been pushing alot of hands with less than stellar cards IMHO. In addition I put I beleive 300 into the pot, and his re-raise all in was for another 700-800 and left me with 2K in chips... so the call while somewhat loose was not incredibly bad.
10:31 AM
Not to defend the waffler but I think he meant that he was basically on a semi-bluff/steal, being the first in the pot and pushing.
It is a risk and if you get caught by a better hand, it's not as painful, but he was being called with worse hands and the caller was putting their own tourney at risk with the call.
Anyway, that's the game, it happens.
I still think that 4 flushes should be outlawed ;)
10:32 AM
Denials.. I still can not understand calling off 60-70% of your chips with A8o. Even if I was semi-stealing I think there are better hands to defend with.
10:32 AM
Math is hard, but isn't 6000 more like 40% of 15000? Anyways: I agree that you made the right move, but I still like my response. Probably why this is the first final WWdN table that I've seen :)
10:47 AM
Because they know what you don't? "Pokerstars is rigged to help the crappy players suck out when they're dominated and pull a huge donkey play." Or so I'm told. Of course, since I rarely get the suckout, and often get sucked out on, I can only assume it's not true, or I'm better than I think I am :).
That said, people get all starry-eyed when they see an Ace. Sometimes, they have a rationale (see: Denials) that seems reasonable enough. In the WWDN tourneys this move makes even less sense, since they tend to be pretty tight tables, but every once in awhile, you get that "I'm SURE he's bluffing" feeling... and that A looks even better.
Just my useless 2 cents...

Geees Waffle, how many suck outs did you have go against you last night? I know that I got you with A,9 against your A,J, but I was shortstacked.
Sorry if I made you kick your dog or something.
And btw, the plays could have something to do with how many times that you have successfully pulled of the hammer only to shamelessly rub it in the face of the poor soul (me once, booohoo).
1:45 PM
Waffles, your comeback from T315 or so was fantastic! I will have to use this as inspiration next time I feel all is lost. As always, it was fun having you in the tourney.
