CVS Not Charging a Quarter
My doctor asked me to do my blood pressure every day. So I went to CVS and thought they would charge me like a quarter to use the machine. Nope. Free.
Now it does have an annoyingly loud voice.. I guess for the old people like Ken so they can hear and stuff. Hey Ken your becoming a regular on the site! I got a tip that you have to try it 3 times and average it out because the electronic ones are not as good as the old pump and pull method.
Just as a side note, I will never be sleeping with that Nurse Practitioner I have been seeing. She has a ROUGH tough. Man I thought my arm was going to fall off as she pumped up the blood pressure cuff. Ug. Fuck that. I need a soft lady that treats me right.
So the readings were:
137/79
122/82
117/80
So I guess that is alright. No stroke territory. This is a morning reading after the pill. I guess I should probably hit it again tonight on the way home. Hopefully I can keep up the whole taking care of myself kick for a while.

Good readings. Glad to hear you're not going to keel over any time soon.

Nice! Keep taking them pills. Wanna know something about moi? I ALWAYS have low low blood pressure, like 95/55. I dunno why but the doctor is never concerned.

One before you die doesn't seem excessive.
Yada, yada, yada, Ken.
Yada, yada, yada, Ken.

Yada, yada, yada, Ken.
What is this? A link free zone?

Actually low blood pressure isn't a big issue until it gets really low. The thing to look out for when people are really in distress is the narrowing of the numbers...like if they start to get closer together. You know goes from 95/55 to 90/60 to 85/65. That's a very bad sign because it means your heart is beating less efficiently and/or forcefully. The numbers in your blood pressure are how hard the blood is pressing against the insides of your blood vessels when your heart is resting (bottom number) and when it is beating or compressing (top number). If it's too high it start to damage the smaller more delicate blood vessels in places like your brain and kidneys. (I used to be an EMT in my younger days.)

Also. I wouldn't worry so much about trying to get a pinpoint accurate reading. Taking it three times in a row on the same arm without resting several minutes in between will skew the reading. In your situation you're more concerned about whether or not you're within an acceptable range and not that it's exactly this or that number.
I'd purchase one of the automated sphygmomanometers they sell at CVS or Walgreens for like $50 and check it at various times throughout the day.
