Marathon Training

I am beginning my training for my Marathon run in October. Bayne has agreed to introduce me to someone but he says I need to run a marathon with her. Sounds like a deal. Peaker you better chime in here with a comment! I also find it ironic that just a few days after I told Bayne that my bad luck would cause me to meet someone in Rhode Island after I got a lease that only allowed 12k a year that he would suggest I meet someone in New Hampshire.

Birthday was good. Kids baked me a car cake. It was a VW bug. Perhaps this is a sign? Although I thought only chicks drove bugs. After dinner I crashed hard at 7:00 and then woke up at midnight. Stayed up until 7AM and now I am not sure if I should be awake or asleep.

Extra thanks for Jen's nice comment. All the awesome things her and Don and others have said are all true and I really get it. Just need to kick myself out of this funk and implement. The knowing is not the hard part. The doing is.

My GS is 5500 on my main Duggles. I also have a plush Alliance Eagle coming in the mail. XD. My kids bought "me" an in game pet. heh. Of course they are going to try and steal my plushie!!!

My GS should be higher I have been a little lazy. I need to re-enchant all my emblem gear and hit the frost emblems harder.

What training plan are you using? Google Hal Higdon and use the novice plan. He'll get you across the line. I'm using his most advanced plan. Everyone swears by him. Buzz me if you have any questions. THis could be exactly what you need.

I was going to mention Hal Higdon, but Peaker beat me to it. I used him for both my marathons.

Good luck, and remember - you will have lapses in training. We all do. Just keep at it. There's no better (or cheaper) high than a runner's high.

Happy belated 41. I hit 41 last August.

I swear I noticed big changes in the body in the last 6 months. Wife says its because I no longer work out. Meh.

I'm sure Everything will work out for you. You are in the hardest time of a divorce/seperation. Break as many ties as possible to get your sanity back. Trust me, I have lots of experience.

I'm going to try emailing you about rakeback.

happy belated bday Waffles. I directed our local fall marathon for 5 years (among a long list of races I directed, timed or volunteered at). its flat and fast. Ive only run one but I do know a thing or two about marathon training. Are you starting from ground zero or have you been running for a while. Schedule also depends on what your goal is. Just to finish? I ran my first and only mary at 41 and it was NYC.

Yeah.. my starting point is ground -1. Think dude who sits all day in office then sits all day at home.

Goal is to live.

My initial plan after reading Peakers stuff is as follows.

1. Start walking at work again now that weather is good.

2. Join a gym and getting walking like 3 miles a day.

Do that for like 3 weeks or so... and see where I am and then start mixing in some running (like a mile or less) and see what I can do to get up to the beginner stuff on Peakers link.

Then I will re-evaluate in June to see if I actually have a shot at hitting a marathon in October. I am slow by nature so timing will not be a concern just finishing.

5500 is sweet! How far have you made it into ICC?

My guild just does 10 mans and we are just into the Blood Wing now. Putrecide was a bitch, but we've gotten to where we can beat him easy now.

I wish I raided. My kid does more raiding than me at 11..

I have cleared the trash before the first Boss though! heh. Rep run FTW. My kid set that up too. lol. Most of my gear is tokens, dailies, and the 5-man LK dungeons.
I actually need to re-enchant and gear things a little more.

Partly because I hate my PC and need something that can actually do 10 man's :<. I do not think I even have all the Naxx achievements. I started a guild because my kid was bothering me to get good raids going.. so will probably ramp that up and try and figure out how to make a good casual 10-man group.

Sir, put down the running sneakers and step away from the marathon training.

Go bang 26 different woman instead of running 26 miles. Believe me it will be 1000x better than a runner's high.

Wow, this post has motivated me to exercise more. If your fat ass is going to run a marathon, I need to stop being such a waste of space.

The standard rule of thumb from running coaches is to increase your mileage by 10% every week to reduce chances of injury, burnout, and bloody nipples:
