Studly

I have been having fun playing a little Stud-8 lately. Of all the hi-lo games I barely know how to play this is the most fun one. I am not very good at it. I seem to be better than the competition at .50/1 or even 1/2.. but still, not very good. Stud is a nice relaxing game for me. Unlike NLHE. The game of NLHE is like a stock broker job on Wall Street. It is high stress. High anxiety. Action. Speed. Fun. It tends to wear you out sometimes. Stud is like coming home to relax on the beach after work. It is soothing. I am sure if I was good enough to remember each card dealt it would be alot harder. Something about the game is just relaxing. I think it might be because you almost always can tell where you are. Sure people can bluff at the flush or pretend to have boated up. On occassion you get tricked by hidden quads or boats. It is much easier to see where you might be in relationship to everyone else though. Now if I could get Don to stop calling me an Old Man I would be all set.

Yo Waffles! Real Men Play Stud! That's going to be the title of my biography some day I think.

Nice chatting with you last night man. Though I have to say, I really don't get all the silliness between bloggers getting pissed at each other. Life's too short and online poker is too ghey for us to really give that much of a shit, don't you think?

Either way, hopefully I'll see you tonight at Mondays at the Hoy at 10pm. I'm going to win this shizz for the first time tonight, I can feel it (not!).

I tried a play money HORSE game last night and the hi/lo stud made my head hurt.

I have no clue what is a good starting hand and what isn't. My moral compass was spinning, and I began questioning basic facts about myself and my reality.

Too many cards, too many cards.

A good starting hand is one in which you are likely to scoop. I hope that helps, somewhat, CL.

So, you're saying that a good hand is one that is likely to win?

A-ha. Genius.

Ray-Zee's split book and T. Brunson's SSII Stud 8 primers are excellent starters if haven't read them already.

Not meant to be a superior comment, just trying to be helpful.

You and Hoy can move to Florida and discuss hands in the morning (7am to 9am) while playing shuffleboard with your new found octogenarian friends. Follow that up with lunch (10:30)some afternoon stud (11-2) a nap (2:30-3:30), of course the early bird (4pm) then an evening of more stud and in bed by 9pm.
