80-20 no Good

Went out just inside the points in the Mookie tonight. I had a 4K stack. I raised 480, Sellthekids re-raised 2500 or something. I think his raise means he is weak so I jam with my Queens. He calls... with his jacks.. Saying "I know you have me beat but I can not fold here can I?".. He rivered a runner-runner straight and then he asked what he did wrong on the hand.

Ok. Why commit yourself to the hand with Jacks? A smaller raise tells you where you are normally. Your bigger raise narrowed down your range for me and made the call with queens easy. However I have seen worse plays.

I am not sure how I feel about the call. I mean if you KNOW you are beat with no doubt. It is still early. You actually could fold. I mean if your that far behind are you pot committed? Chip wise possibly.. but that may be the difference between a great player and a good one. I do not think I fold there either.

So not the best play in the world but not horrible. The guy who gets my rant is Heffmike. Why you might ask?

Ok. I am in a hand with him early.. and the flop is nasty and I keep betting small into the hand.. and so Mike decides well within reason that he will try and take the pot on the river. However he makes a pussy bet and I figure my Ace high is probably good and snap off his bluff... He is then incredulous that his J8c super sneaky I am a bad ass player bluff got called by ACE high. Get over it dude. Your bluff sucked. It was not even a hard call by a long shot.

Mike then proceeds to call most of my raises trying to get back at me for some perceived injustice.. I.E. Outplaying him and making him look stupid.. and ends up losing EVEN MORE chips to me. Great idea. Call raises with crap because you are mad at me and then donate more chips. Genius at work. Everyone watch out.

Finally he says I imploded in the Mookie and somehow did something wrong. I mean I am not sure about this.. but I think I got a guy to put all his chips in the pot as a HUGE dog.. I believe I had a great chance to double up and be in great shape for a run at the final table... and I am not sure but I think that the donkey got incredibly lucky and won some small percentage luckbox hit on some river miracle card. Now I know you do not get poker all that well.. and I am trying to speak slowly here.. and use small words.. but can you explain how I imploded? If you can you are a far better poker player than I ever will be.

Fucking haters.. at least make some sense when you talk smack to me. Anyway.. that was fun. Much better than ranting against SelltheKids marginal play. I see him make mistakes all the time and he just needs to learn. I think he has a great attitude and may someday fold a pocket pair pre-flop. I am not going to hold my breath but we will see.

No more MTTs until Friday with Katitude. The $1 REBUY is so much fun and hilarity that I can do nothing but highly recommend it. If you remember last week we had 170 rebuys and a prize pool of $108. Lets do it again this week people! After that I am playing either the 18K Guaranteed or the 22K Deep stack on Saturday. Until then Rant On!!!

Dude, I am so totally not busting you for that. I know the only person that tilt monkeys worse than me after losing an 80-20 is you.
Calling with A-high blind on blind is money. I'm repping what you already have. Oh well. You pwned me good.
You have to realize most of the time when I can play a pot with you, I'm looking to bad beat you for the tilt factor.

Anyhow, GG.

i'll have to check the HH, but i think my comment when you shoved was, "ugg." i did not know i was beat b/c obviously i would fold. my raise was meant to convey that i was pot-committed. again, i will have to check the HH, but i am pretty sure i had more than 50% of my chips in the pot - and i had your range 99+, including AK & AQ. i knew that if you had AA, KK i was dead - but i thought if you had QQ-, you might put me on AA or KK and fold to my raise. as i understand it, that's the point of fold equity.

this hand to me illustrates how hard it is to go through a whole tourney and not win a coin-flip or suckout. i would say impossible.

but then again, i am just a monkey --> http://www.sellthekids.com/

Yes you are. Heh. Middle pairs are hard to play and I do not know if I played my QQ any better than you played your JJ.. and do not get me started on what would happen on that flop. It was just one of those hands. Good job not pissing away my chips last night.

Interesting hand with the QQ and the JJ. First of all you certainly didn't implode, you got in ahead for all your chips when you were dominating 80-20 over your opponent. Recockudonk to call that "imploding".

Anyways about the QQ/JJ hand, I'm guessing from your post that sellthekids was basically pot committed already at that point so that's why he called. Query whether that means his raise to 2500 was a bit too much that he could not even get away from it when it seemed somewhat likely he might be beat or at least racing. But at that point once you'd pushed allin, I think he is too committed at that point to fold.

The one part about your post that I don't get -- and I didn't see the hand live so maybe there was more to your read here -- is where you say "seelthekids reraised it up to 2500. I read his raise as weak, so I push all in." What about that play made you think it was weak? He reraised your pf raise bigtime, so absent any other tells or factors, this sounds like a strong hand to me, not a weak one. I don't think pushing with the Queens is a terrible play, but you coulda probably folded to that big raise, assuming you are probably up against AA, KK or AK, and not lost too many chips in the hand. It's hard to fold Queens under those circumstances, but when you say he reraised your pf raise big, and that seemed weak to you, you tend to lose me a bit.

Sorry to see you not money in the Mook man. Did jec and blinders get in there at least?

I saw you go from 2nd in chips to out in very little time, so lemme ask, was SellTheKids the only player who had you outchipped, or did you lose some of your chips in an earlier hand?

Jeciimd has taken the point lead again I believe.. still no money though..

My thinking in the hand and it was more instinctual and having played SellTheKids before was his re-raise screamed "I really don't want to see a flop".. To me vs this particular player I read AK/99-JJ. AA/KK was a dim possibility but again with this player and that raise I discounted it. I could obviously have been wrong. I was strongly leading towards him having AK..

As to the second part of the question.. It was time to make my mark in the Tourney. I am fine with racing against AK.. or dominating a smaller pocket pair here.. I jump to first in chips and I know I can do something good with that. If I win that hand as I will most of the time I am in great shape to take down the Mookie.

I went from 5K to the 3600-4K I had in a few hands that missed flops.. I got and raised AK and a few small pockets in 3-4 hands and missed everything.. I made some reasonable lay downs and lost 3xBB raise. So nothing serious happened.. just not hitting, and then got killed by a lucksack.

anytime u put QQ in against JJ PREFLOP i highly doubt that is imploding. To me its more like you had him exactly where you wanted him

Hey Waffles....Mookie told me that you might be able to help me with my new banner. It's slightly off to the right side...do you know how to move it to the left so it is centered? Take a look and tell me what you think...
Thanks in advance...
