Jordon is a Cock Rag

I bet you think this is a Jordon rant.. nahh.. Although I technically think raising KQo in EP is a stupid play he had the chips to be stupid.. He obviously had to call when I jammed my A6o against him. Why would I jam A6o against an EP raiser? Cause I knew he was full of shit. I could sense the weakness radiating from his hand.. haha. I felt I was head and needed chips and that is what you do in an MTT. With a 20K stack vs my 4K stack I think my range of hands for a shove allows Jordon to make that call.. and the flop of AQQ.. well that is just poker people. Congrats on the cash Jordon.. your running hot keep it up.

I have really changed my mentality in MTTs and have a few new idea's like if you let yourself get short stacked and someone calls you with any two cards then you fucked yourself. It does not matter what those two cards are.

I also believe that every MTT is about sucking out and if you get that big suckout then you have a chance to go far.. like when I called Ick's re-jam of JammyHawk (Thundercats ho?) with AK and killed his KK.. Of course everyone knows there are 24 Aces in the deck so it was the right call.

My real demise in the game was a concept that I am not sure about but I am getting more convinced of. You look down at your hand. The blinds are 200/400 or something like that.. You have a semi-healthy 8K stack and see something like 66/88 one of the baby pairs. Someone raises. The obvious move here is what? Call? Fold? Jam? What?!?!?! I normally call and hope for the miracle set.. and if this happens I make a nice score and go deeper.. but if I miss like I will for the most part I am down about 1/8th my stack.. I had two suck incidents last night where I called and it chipped me down from 8K to 5K and with the blinds I end up with 4K and trying to race with Jordon. These small pairs are tough to play to me and I am leaning towards just letting them go unless I can limp or I am short stacked in which case I would jam and go for the race. Comments?

Jam if you know your the initial raiser isn't a donkey and will call with anything, fold if they are tighter bayne.

Mid-low pocket pairs - depends, IMO. But unless we're both deep enough where I have enough odds to set mine, I would fold. If the initial raiser has fold equity, I might reraise. But personally, I feel that at least in a smaller tournament (not 1000+ MTTs), I have better spots that I can pick up rather than jamming, knowing I will get called and also knowing that my best bet is on the better side of a flip.

if it was a smallish raise I either re-raise or fold. I wouldn't jam unless I was short. if the raise is substantial and the raiser is not some loose donkey I pick a better spot.
I will never just call unless there are a bunch of callers in front. NEVER. With baby pairs any higher card on the flop is a scare card and then I just threw chips in the pot for nothing.

A cockrag, aye?

Anywho, think of an implied pot-odds argument for the 66/88 hand. If you are going to hit your set 1:7.5, then you need to be able to win at least 7.5X the preflop call to make it worth your while. Therefore, you need to have more than 7.5x the bet AND the other guy has to have more than 7.5x the bet AND you have to expect to be able to get full value from the set. Its a tricky proposition. In your example, with blinds of 200/400 and an 8k stack, you have to call 400 (assuming no one raised preflop) and have an expected value of 3k or so to make it worthwhile. In that instance, I don't mind it, but keep that in mind generally, because a lot of times, you'll realize that you can't win enough to make the preflop odds worth it.

And I'm glad you finally are starting to understand the concept of blaming yourself EVEN for the suckouts. It may not be the busting hand that makes it your fault, but if you had the other guy covered, you'd still be in it, so look back and figure out how you came to be in that position in the first place.

And I realize you are not arguing about the KQ v A6 hand, but I hope we all realize the I was WAY pot committed against any non-paired hand without a K or Q, or 22-JJ. I might be a cockrag, but you were a premature busternator.

Going by your math Jordon if I am going to hit my set 1:7.5 times and I have 8K and its 1200 to call... then I am going broke before I ever hit my set.. hence folding is the right move.. (I am leaning towards folding this late in an MTT) Early on its different because the blind vs chip ratio is smaller.

I had 10BB Jordon so I do not think that is premature.. MAAAAYBE I could wait for a better spot but I got in on the small favorite side of a 50/50 which I am totally fine with. I win that hand and double up and I think I am dangerous again. Anyway.. I would do that again in a second. I obviously knew there was no way in hell you were going to fold there and I wanted you to call.

I am almost positive I ended up with a short stack because of cock rags like you who make bad calls.. I will have to look at the hand histories again to make sure.. heh.
Actually it was because of calling two hands with middle pairs and having to fold the flop which is why I brought up that question.

Fuck the Mookie! I liked your post yesterday... what's up with this tourney? I can cash in the other blogger events, but can't seem to even final table this one. And I didn't even have the honor of having you be the one to knock me out last night!
(Okay, my complaints are WAY premature given the puny sample size, but I still choose to bitch. ... I'm 3 for 5 for at least cashing in blogger events, and the two misses were both Mookies! Stupid ghey Wednesdays...

In actuality, I don't think there's ever a formula for playing a certain hand in a MTT; you just have to go with your read and whether or not you think you can lay it down and then safely steal pots after to get chips or what not, etc.

7.5 doesn't sound right to me. That sounds like you're counting flop, turn and river.

I think flop is closer to 10. I need 10 to 1 implied odds to FLOP my set. I fold small pairs to raises easily late in tournaments when there's no way you have odds.

I just want to know exactly what a Cock Rag is?

And I fold. As far as you know.

Yeah, it's about 8:1 to flop a set. So it sounds like a fold.
