Poker the Game of Skill

I played about two hands in the big game. Here I just about owned someone as much as possible. I think I could have folded the river instead of jamming since I pretty much knew he hit whatever he was drawing to.. I put him on something like TT-QQ, and then possibly some draw on the turn. Which was pretty dead on. The problem with the river is I know TJ is a decent player and if I check to him I have to make a hard choice because he is going to bet huge just because checking is so weak. I could have bet less but he is raising me anyways. So sort of a frustrated jam possibly but its a hard spot. I think the rest of the hand to the turn I had TJ exactly where I wanted him. His cold calls instead of raises tells me he was pretty sure he was beat but prayed that he might be ahead. I know the feeling. I have done that myself before but it is bad and usually gets me in trouble. So I called TJ a fukkin idiot more out of frustrating than him being an idiot and apologized later.

With 500 chips left I have to jam or fold. I thought sellthekids MIGHT have a good Ace but I felt I had to gamble. I saw him turn over A7 and I was extremely happy looking to have some chips to work with. Of course the Skill of poker defeated me again. Lot of fun.

So I signed off with a nice "I hope all you inbred rednecks drown in your own drool".. and called it a night. I am actually pretty encouraged by the games so far. I signed up for the wrong Brit Bloggerment but took third for break even. Went deep in the real one and lost a race TT vs AK. I think I played the big game pretty much the best possible. Had two 70% or better chances to make big amounts of chips and the cards just fell the wrong way. Feeling really good about my chances in this thing if I keep playing this well.

Nice raise pre-flop.

Gotta agree with Al. Calling from the big blind instead of making a big raise opened the door. Then, check raising after the flop instead of making a big raise gave him reason to stay and probably think he was in the lead.

I'm not crazy about his call of your 1,800 raise. However, this was, I believe, a case of playing your opponent, as Top said.

Listen as much as I respect you and Al I got a guy to commit over half of a huge stack as a 86% dog. If you have any problem with that then your a moron.

Raising pre-flop and winning a small pot in such a deep stack game is insane. Also thanks for the complement about playing the player. It is nice to know that people will call off with crap against me all day long. Should give me HUGE stacks along with the occasional retarded fit.

The worst poker player to sling chips calling me a moron. Outstanding.

In all that is holy, squeeze that Pre-flop.

KK is not a hand you want to be playing with out of position and deep stacks. 56s is. J9s is. 33 is. Not KK.

haha - Waffles, I don't think the word "tight" would be used to describe your play. And if your table image allows you to make dastardly plays, then I hope you use it to your advantage. After all, it worked for you an awful lot last year, right?

btw -- That's no typo -- I did mean dastardly. Really.

And ... I do not own a moron.

oh, and shoving the river on the KK hand is bad, hes not calling with worse, only thing you might accomplish is to get him to fold 98 or 87.

Maniac, all bs aside, I found this hand to be quite fascinating. Deep stack poker is an entirely different beast. Arguments could be made for all of the opinions stated, and I don't think anyone per se 'by the book' would be off base. The directions hands like this can take are truly worth thinking about. Thanks for posting.

I agree with your call waffles, I was mega deep in a $2 tournament on stars, had 400k in chips and was down to the last 2 tables with 13 players left, get dealt KK and UTG raises and the only stack that as me covered reraised, leaving 112k in the pot, I jam and get instacalled by the only stack that covers me and of course he had aces, after 7 hours of solid play I felt sick at my stupidity, if I called the raise I would still have 370k and the ace on the flop would have allowed me to get away from the hand, I then entered my remaining roll in a ridicoulous stake turbo and went just before the money, my bankroll is no more, anyways until my next to deposit, I'm out
