Impromptu Poll

Not so much because I like my wife but I figure proving her wrong is a lot of fun. So this weekend I mentioned to her that she should "Jailbreak" her iPhone. Now in reality I know fuck all about Apple phones. So here is the poll.

A. Have you busted your iPhone out of Jail, and if so name 1-3 applications that made the jailbreak worth it.

That is all. I know a lot of you besides being overweight and under intelligent have some decent tech savy so I expect some good comments.

Never jailbroke my iPhone. I hate iBricks. There are plenty of nice apps for the non-jailbroke version. I also find that the lack of forward mobility in the iPhone OS a big drawback. Once you jailbreak, you are at the mercy of the jailbreakers to keep you up to speed of the improvements.

Yes, I have jailbroken my iPhone, although I don't use it for a ton of things. I do agree with the idea of getting too dependent on your jailbroken apps being a bad thing because you set yourself up to get screwed down the road.

Anyways, the apps I use are Qik (Video recording app that streams live video directly to the web), an NES emulator, a background enabler app (So I can run multiple apps at the same time), and Winterboard, which lets you download and install many different themes and appearances.

So I don't have anything that I'm dependent on, but there is nice stuff to be had.

Jailbroken and unlocked...why? Because

1. iPhone wasn't available from my provider? Did they really think I would switch my provider because of a phone? Pah!

2. AppStore wasn't available back then, so how should I get apps from the numerous "repositories" without jailbreaking?

3. I love playing with gadgets...so why the hell not ;)
