Cash Game with Flux
I played the cash game with Fluxer watching my back. I did pretty well. He is a great teacher. He made me play a hand more aggressively than I normally would. The situation was this. I had pocket 8's and call the normal 2.50 raise pre-flop trying to hit my set. Instead the flop comes 567. Ouch. Dangerous. So the initial bettor puts in a bet of 8.50. I raises $8.50 to $17. He re-raises $23.50 to $40.50. So there is sixty in the pot and I have 18 left behind. I have to call at this point even though I am only 40% to win. Instead I decide to push my entire stack. Calling is for wimps. He calls. I think min-raising might have been a mistake but the rest of the hand drew me along. The laugh I got after the hand was over and I scooped in my chips was nice.

PrinceHal: you could have drawn to those "zillion outs"
PrinceHal: for $8
PrinceHal: but instead you raised

He actually had pocket Q's, so with the aggression I was showing, I do not know how he put me on 88. Um.. maybe he is smart?
I think it is more likely that he was pissed at me from before, came and hunted me down, played his hand hard because it was me, and I sucked out on him.

btw - does anyone think anything about the actual hand? I think it may have been a mistake raising him 8.50 more, but once I did that, with the stacks being so small on Riverstars did I have a choice?

Well calling the original raise would have been a mistake since you were getting nowhere near the odds to catch your open ended straight draw. So you pretty much have two choices at that point : you either raise or fold. If you’re gonna raise, you might as well go all-in, not hoping that he calls but hoping that he’ll walk away from this hand. A solid player should fold Queens (or kings or aces for that matter) to an all-in reraise on a 5-6-7 board. He’s either drawing slim against two pair or a set, dead to a made straight or racing against an OESD. If he calls, you’re guaranteed of seeing the next two cards (He won’t bet you out on the turn if a blank hits) and you still have outs to bust his ass.
Personally, I would have folded the 8's.
